Everyone should get the Covid-19 vaccine, even kids. I think doctors should give the vaccine to kids because kids can get Covid. When the vaccine is available for kids I will take it. I will take it even if it has some side effects. The side effects will wear off. The vaccine will help kids to lead our normal lives. Such as: no more masks! And we can play outside or inside with any friends we want to. A kid could have the virus but not get sick or show symptoms. Kids could transfer it to parents and other adults. This is another reason for kids to get vaccinated. Covid 19 is a deadly virus. It started in 2019 but it started affecting the USA in January 2020. It is no easy virus. It is so big that over 33 million people in the USA have been infected. And almost 600,000 people have died in the United States from COVID-19. Luckily, scientists created a vaccine that will prevent us from getting Covid-19. Surprisingly, people are declining the vaccine or refusing to take it. It will take a 70 to 85 percent of Americans who are vaccinated to reach herd immunity for COVID-19. The Pfizer vaccine is approved for kids 12 to 17. So far, two other companies have started vaccine trials for kids under 12 years of age, as of May 28, 2021. Moderna and J&J are having trials for kids. Moderna is 94% effective. J&J is 66% effective. Moderna is more effective but that doesn’t mean J&J is a bad vaccine. The Covid vaccine does have side effects. For instance, headaches, fever, chills, and more. On the arm you got a shot in, it may swell and you may be in some pain. You will be more tired after taking the Covid vaccine for a day or two. To help the side effects, you should drink more fluids and use and exercise the arm where you got the shot. The schools are all going to be back in person in the fall. If kids are not vaccinated, they may still have to wear masks in school. I hope not. By: Chaymae Makhmarat
"That is the promise to glade, the hill we climb, if only we dare. It’s because being American is more than a pride we inherit,” recited Amanda Gorman, in her great inaugural poem heard throughout the world. She is the youngest (22 years old) inaugural poet In U.S history. First lady Dr. Jill Biden personally chose Amanda to recite the poem. How did Amanda Gorman achieve the honor of reciting her inaugural poem? She was born in Los Angeles and raised by a single mother. Her mother was an English teacher. Amanda was always interested in reading and writing. Her mother encouraged her to start writing poems. Amanda had a speech impediment during her childhood, so she could not pronounce a lot of words and had a hard time pronouncing the letter ‘R.’ Interestingly, the president, Joe Biden also had speech impediment as a kid. She used writing to overcome her speech difficulties. She used writing as a form of self expression. Amanda would listen to the song “Hamilton” to help her pronounce R’s. Amanda Gorman’s biggest inspiration is the poet Maya Angelou. She actually wore a ring with a caged bird to represent Maya Angelou's Poem “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings.“ Amanda Gorman has had many great accomplishments for a person so young. Amanda was chosen the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles at just 16 years old. She also founded the non-profit organization One Pen One Page which helps empower youth to use their voices. She graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is also the author of the book “Change Sings: A Children's Anthem” and her book of poems titled “The Hill We Climb” is coming out in September 2021. Amanda is the first poet to be on the cover of Vogue Magazine and to perform at the Super Bowl. Her dream is to become President of the United States of America and she plans to run as soon as she is eligible. I think kids should study poetry because it is a way to express themselves. Writing poetry can be very fun! Amanda Gorman is an inspiration to people all around the world. Take time to read one of her poems or watch her inaugural poem on YouTube and you will surely be inspired too. |
